Cheltenham Festival 18 Mar 2011 - Day 4
by NRL Racing March 2011
Our guide for this final day of racing at this years Festival at Cheltenham Racecourse.
RACE 1
My idea of the winner here is SAM WINNER very impressive
earlier in the season and I will forgive his disappointing run in
the heavy last time. One of his main dangers could well be his
stable mate ZARKANDER who looked good when winning his only start
and this form was given a boost by the running of Kumbeswar who he
beat 15 lengths.
Another key danger is the more experienced HOBLON DES OBLEAUX and
the Henderson trained MEDIA DE LUX.
To recap SAM WINNER to beat HOBLON DES OBLEAUX and ZARKANDER
RACE 2
The County Hurdle sees ALARAZI go for the bonus after
winning on Saturday and carries only a 5 lb penalty and should again
run well. Another one of the favourites DIRAR for Gordon Elliot is
also very well in but 2 better priced horses that catch my eye are
NOTUS DE LA TOUR, 2nd under top weight in the Fred Winter
last year and SALDEN LICHT and despite topweight is my idea of the
winner.
I know it is a tough ask of a topweight to win a race like this but
he has a touch of class and is used to carrying big weights.
To recap SALDEN LICHT to beat DIRAR and NOTUS DE LA TOUR
RACE 3
This 3 mile novice looks a hotter race than the 2 1/2mile
equivalent last year. BOBS WORTH is a worthy favourite having beaten
Rock On Ruby (2nd on wed ) last time and I am sure Nicky
Henderson is desperate to get off the mark.
One of the most experienced and battle hardened is KILCREA KIM who
will relish the trip and for me ticks al the boxes, now to one of
the least experienced horses, the northern raider MOONLIGHT DRIVE
for John Quinn, impressive winner on his only start under rules and
can go well again.
To recap KILCREA KIM to beat BOBS WORTH and MOONLIGHT DRIVE
RACE 4
The Gold Cup. One could make a case for and against all 4
market principals. I cannot see the Irish pair being good enough. I
can see MIDNIGHT CHASE running a big race on a track he loves but I
am going to take a chance with WEIRD AL, Ian Williams has made a
bold decision to go for the Gold Cup and I am taking on trust his
recent wind operation did the job and at 25/1 hes my small ew bet
To recap WEIRD AL to beat DENMAN and MIDNIGHT CHASE
Quick note on LONG RUN, exceptional horse, but I feel he will either
win like a good un or be nowhere and at 4/1 just too skinny.
RACE 5
The Foxhunter and BABY RUN looking for a repeat success. He
has done nothing wrong since last yea and is correctly priced at
11/4 but with the stable not firing I would be looking for some
value.
GONE TO LUNCH is a cracking horse and will relish this test and has
been rejuvenated since going hunting and must have a great chance. A
real outsider who has run well and won here before can again put up
a big show is AMICELLI
To recap GONE TO LUNCH to beat AMICELLI
RACE 6
Hurdle for conditional jockeys where I am taking a chance
with the lightly raced HOLLINS, his last couple of races have been
in better company and whilst beaten comfortably it has been
difficult to assess his handicap relative to the others but I can
see him running a huge race.Another northern raider who has been in
good form is PALOMAR who Brian Ellison whose Bothy finished 2nd
earlier in the week.
David Pipe has his horse in good form and is represented by
SHOEGAZER who should run well, together with Hendersons MONETARY
FUND who has been running consistently all year and may again run
into the money.
To recap HOLLINS to beat PALOMAR and MONETARY FUND
RACE 7
The final race of the festival sees OH CRICK trying to win
this again having won 2 years ago but now he has more weight and
despite running into form will found this much tougher.Ferdy Murphy
is triple handed and won with his chaser Divers on Tuesday and I can
see this shrewd trainer going close, of the 3, I prefer RIGUEZ
DANCER .
One also has to respect ANQUETTA and NOMECHECKI who finished 1st
and 2nd at Sandown and are both in good form but my idea
of the winner is LEOS LUCKY STAR in a race where there is no stand
out horse he hasn’t disappointed this season and looks well in on
previous form
To recap LEOS LUCKY STAR to beat ANQUETTA and RIGUEZ DANCER
